you should also note that when Musashi and later when Yamato were sunk, the Japanese Air Force was failing, I doubt Iowa could stand up to squadrons of aircraft either.

The FN FAL is perhaps the best full power battle rifle of the 20th century, but I believe it is way too powerful for regular troops who will engage targets within 300 meters, therefore I think the best is the AK47especially the M62 finnish variant with peep sights which fires a more realistic, yet powerful and capable enough intermediate caliber.

The FN FAL sux.
It's heavy, has an enormous recoil, not to accurate, and jams a lot on full auto. Worst of all, when a grain of sand finds its way in the weapon, you might as well throw it away.
From what i fired i prefer the Steyr AUG.

I've shot it. yes it has an enormous recoil, but its not meant to be used on full auto. and, it is reasonably accurate but it is not an assault rifle it is a BATTLE RIFLE.

Except with a muzzle break and light recoiling parts, like an AR platform over an M14 platform.
The other alternative is a heavier rifle.
Your statement is misleading. Any rifle that is IDEAL for a battle rifle is either to heavy recoiling, underpowered, or too heavy.

the AUG is a Battle Rifle also, but the guns are not meant to be compared, and yes, the gun wasd not durable and had EXTREME recoil, but it is not meant to be fired on full auto, it was an added bonus for CQC

I own a FN FAL and It has performed very well in dirty conditions. It has a self-cleaning gas blowback system. Just crank it up and it cleans itself.

Its great considering WWII was fought, mostly, with bolt-action rifles having less than 10 rounds. Changing mags more often is a small price to pay for the decreased weight and the ease of dealing with smaller items hanging off of you. The "Johnny Rambo clip of never-ending rounds" looks good on a movie screen or monitor, but it sucks to deal with in an actual combat situation.
Unless you want to be an Engineer and use a truck-mounted M2!
