I'we never heard such a magnificent interpretation of this duett. And I also cannot imagine better. Corelli's legato is beautiful. He gives all the complexity of the character is this duett.

Splendid - even through the rather poor recording and my cheap computer speakers you can here the great power tempered with some subtlety unlike the America singers such as Merrill.

I've run it through my vintage Luxman 2 channel receiver and punched it out through a pair of vintage DCM Time Windows speakers and I'm astonished by how good this 50 year old recording sounds, maybe its because the speakers are only 20 years younger than the recording

Warren was American and could be more subtle then Bastianini and sing tenor also high C's and all if he wanted, Merrill could sing down to a whisper and had a very beautiful sound, he chose to sing the role correctly.

This is the GREATEST broadcast of LA FORZA ever filmed or taped. The first time I saw it, my jaw almost hit the floor. You are right. The opera lovers of the 50's and 60's were spoiled beyond belief.

HOW COULD YOU SAY THAT!?!?! Merrill might be the subtlest baritone to ever live. I will even be so bold to say that Warren, Merrill, and Tibbett (yeah, i threw that name in there) were more subtle that Bastianini. Don't get me wrong, Bastianini is in my top three of all time great baritones, but that is just flat out wrong.

I would agree that Bjoerling/Merril was a great duo for such arias, but I woulkd give the nod to Corelli/Bastianini for their dynamic style and quality of vocals.

Did you notice how the curtain closes as they're still singing and how Corelli raises his sword to indicate that it's too soon. I wonder if he hit the guy responsible for closing the curtain with it.
Best Forza ever, probably also the best live opera on video. Funny how Corelli is tense in act I due to his legendary stage fright and how he relaxes as time passes. In this duet, both singers are godly, incredible voices and fantastic stage presence.

This is definitely my favorite Forza. A great Bastianini with his dark, almost bass-like timbre and clear diction, phrasing and a great technique to match; Corelli with his superb top, passionate interpretation and interesting dynamics (a man of his vocal weight should not have such superb piano!). And of course they had an excellent Leonora, Tebaldi. Christoff isn't bad either.

One word: PERFECT. As other comments, this is absolutely my favorite Forza, and my favorite tenor/baritone duet. Bastianini and Corelli are simply the best in that role (listen also the "Urna fatale" for Bastianini and the "La vita è inferno all'infelice" for Corelli, and of course the other duet "Solenne in quest'ora"). This is *THE* big great interpretation.
Others, also great artists, are so far from this interpretation, the passion, the voices.

Bastianini had the most pleasure bariton voice I've ever heard. Not strong as Warren, nor Gobbi, but beautiful, nice timbre. He used to sing as a tenor (not pushing the low notes), but with his wonderful bariton voice. Corelli is totally amazing here. Thanks for posting this video.
