Even though squats work many different muscles, you'll feel them mostly in your glutes and thighs... not necessarily in that order. :-)

Everyone is a little different. You can do squats where you hold on to a fixed object and lean back while you squat. It's great for people with knee issues.

Interesting, I knew it had something to do with the large muscles in legs I also thought the heart had to pump harder because leg muscles are furthest from the lungs. When I started doing squats I was using a balance support and going all the way down and bouncing back up again lol. My knees were getting sore I checked some youtube vids and found the right way to do them. I hold my arms out for balance, and bring my knees to a 90 degree angle. I need to start using my heals though.

My knees were getting sore ( Aches and pains ). However when I started doing them the right way they feel much better. Isnt that normal when doing new exercises the joints need to get used to supporting the weight and movements?

Hi Doug, just finished doing my squats. I watched the video yesterday and noticed that ive been going up on my toes too much. I had a hard time centering my gravity on the mid foot area, so i used my sandles as a lift about 1" high. Id have to say that was the best squat workout yet, it felt like more of my legs were getting worked and less strain on my knees.

I personally don't like elevating the heels during a squatting motion as it typically shifts more shear stress to the knees.
On my new site, you'll be able to video tape yourself and have me "pick on" your form. :-)
