| i think it was because it was in such a remote area they had to snowshoe in to rescue the survivors. the engines the injection seat and other items are at the Moosehead Rider's Clubhouse. it is now a memorial to remember those who lost their lives there. |

| actually what looked to you like the cockpit is the rearward-facing gunner's station on the tail-end of the jet, the vertical stab joins the fuselage directly above this area, the gunner would have been the first to know that something was wrong. after diposing of the huge 4-barrel 50 cals into the slipstream, he would have bailed out the rear in the jet in the hole he just created. I'll have to visit this place sometime. I crewed on a B-52 during the late 80's. |
