In the end of the day, im so sick of this petty argument about where he came from. WHO CARES?!?! Why not try to learn a little from his words, you would then realize it doesn't matter where he came from. Just like people to try to materialize something beyond the material. well he said we call him RUMI to westenise him... rumi is a nick name given to him by persians and i dont see any westernise or easternise on it. his other nick name given to him are MOLANA AND MOLAWI.

This is what Mawlana Rumi says about Olagh turks, Turk Khandedan greft az dastan, Chashmi tangash gasht basta han zaman. translation; Turk started laughing about the story, his tiny eyes closed themselves from the world at that moment.-- So Mawlana Rumi acknowledges the tiny eyes or oriental features of Turks in his poems while Rumi as a Tajik Balkh didnt have that kinda of feature himself.

I think Islamic Sufism should be the real sufism. I disagree with any Sufism that is even the slightest degree broken away from Islam. Because Sufism without Islam is really just re-hashing Buddhism and Taoism in a different light.

osman gazi, the founder of the empire, once a prince, visited konya where rumi lived and talked with rumi. then rumi wanted him to be his murid (spiritual student) and prayed for him.

Love is not belonging to any certain land or people it is universal. As same as Mevlana Rumi, He is universal, He was born in Balkh, immigrated to Anatoly and died in Konya. But he never wanted to be known as an Afghan, Turk, Persian or Roman. He is over the top of things and places. He is the Love and universe. The unity and the evolution toward it and toward love and humanity is what he did and he wants us to do.
