Escuchando esta grabación, tres años antes de su muerte, es observable que mucho del poder vocal que marcaba su timbre estaba escaso. Sin embargo su voz, en lo absoluto esta perdida, como hicieron (y le hicieron creer), es posible que su fatal desenlace y la depresión que sufrió fuera causa de las constantes comparaciones con sus interpretaciones en años de gloria.
Es audible, un timbre más fino y agudo, al contrario de lo que suele pasar a las otras sopranos (que agraban su registro.)

Perdio su confianza luego de que Onassis la dejo. Por eso su voz no fue la misma. Hay varios documentales donde amigos de ella dicen que ella les habia confesado eso.

She actually sounds OK here because she's performing relatively easy music. Hard to believe that this voice in it's absolute prime encompassed such roles as Norma, Medea, Lucia, Anna Bolena, Turandot, and everything else. No one has filled her place yet, and I doubt whether anyone ever will. Maria Callas was one of a kind ----- her artistry was on another planet.

I do not consider myself a Callas fan, primarily due to the inconsistency of her recordings.
I must admit, though, I ignore any vocal weaknesses that she may have displayed in her final concerts WHEN I can watch her. These 1974 concerts do not make for a satisifying listening experience, but how can one not be mesmerized by the Callas charm and charisma.
As a vocal coach I tell my students " Good interpretation covers a multitude of vocal sins." This is proof of that statement.

Estoy completamente de acuerdo contigo y con nicevidbro,ella nunca pudo haber perdido ese instrumento que poseia,le infundieron miedo y desconfianza en si misma,yo estoy seguro que si hubiera practicado arduamente,hubiera vuelto a ser la misma o mejor,puesto que habia adquirido tecnicas,de culquier forma,jamas habra otra Callas,la mejor,"La Divina"por siempre!!!

yanno, i think im gonna stop readin all these comments when i watch the opera videos....... sometimes u wannabe critics and overly observant cooks with ur "trained ears" can really ruin a good listening experience and pick apart every single miniscule flaw in any performance by any performer...... maybe im not cultured or trained in opera, but i think she sounds great, maybe her voice isnt in its prime... but it seems like some people just listen to find flaws.. just enjoy the music......

Whatever. I made a simple comment and if you will look at it with detachment, you may be able to see that I meant it as a compliment.
Callas was crucified in 1974 by the critics, and I merely was saying that even though she was not at her vocal peak, she was still an engaging and charismatic performer.
I, too, am going to stop trying to contribute to opera videos. One is not allowed to have an opinion on these boards and that's sad.

I agree. After she had gained weight and then lost it again, her voice warbled a lot, and sadly, it's not as enjoyable to listen to her. Her older recordings are much nicer to listen to, when and if you can find them.

What I find very bizarre is that one person said nearly the same thing that I did and got 5 approvals, while I received 4 thumbs down and some vulgar and rude comments.
I said I was not a fan because her recordings were very inconsistent, but I also admitted that she would mesmerize me in concert. I love watching clips of her. Beverly Sills, who I did see in concert, enchanted me, yet her later recordings were disappointing.

I have it. I bought it from a collector, at ebay. It is too short of a passage. She is singing Bethoven, and playing the piano. It`s hard to say if her voice was back becouse the passage is very short. But it sounds very nice.

She wanted to help Steffano to raise maney to take care of his daughter that had cancer.He was broke at the time and Callas wanted to help him. She was not poor, ever. But I guess she wanted to have more money to keep up with the kind of life she was usded too. When she died in 1977, she left 12 millions USD, which was a lot at that time.But it included her Paris apt. and her other possessions, like jwerls. etc.,which means that she had less than that before her last concert tour.
