I'm gobsmacked! Such fireworks of variation on top of the already dazzling original vocal line!
Not fair to compare Blake and Florez - such different instruments! This is gut-wrenchingly exciting singing, perhaps at times at the expense of sheer beauty, which Florez does supremely well.
Oh whom to choose?!

The first time I listened to this clip was a week ago and I'm still shocked, can anybody do that? Maybe Rocky then...I really liked this aria from the beginning (from listening to Florez) but now I love it!!! He really give it a new dimension!

The answer is no, nobody human can do that, but Rocky is from another planet! A true freak to the male voice, and he keeps the listener on the edge the his seat at all times.

Totalmente cierto, Felitar a todos aquellos que tienen abiertos los oídos y el corazón y que se rinden a la evidencia.
Las facultades que esgrime Blake en sus mejores años deja a cualquier tenor, de su repertorio, tan atrás que algunos en honestidad, reconozcamos asombrados, que tales "interpretaciones" están fuera del alcalce de "TODOS" y con todo el respeto hacia ellos manifestemos que pertenece a otro mundo.

There are no commercial recordings, but you can find a few live recordings on line. I recommend the one with Dupuy and Cuberli from Paris.

It's funny that I find myself reading these responses when it is about Rocky, to see if I have already commented before I type (of course because I can't resist)
Well then - this is certainly the best ever performance in this role. Rossini must be proud to know that 3 generations after the great "Garcia" passed on the best technique, (for Rossini and all other classical singing)it ended up in Rockwell Blake's singing lessons. ~ We're lucky enough to hear the results.

¿Ramey, Horne, Sutherland y Blake, llegaron a coincidir en escena para Semiramide?
