This song: Runaway Train - is about women/men who decide to be "runaways". They are mostly young and rebellious about home for a lot of reasons. They just 'hit the highway' and hitchhike for a better life.

These people are not voluntary "runaways". They have been kidnapped.

Well said! There so many runaway kids - for years the public did took no notice and didn't wanted to deal with the issue. I'm a former runaway kid - violence in households is a huge issue not only in america. world wide. Rio/Brazil has over 4 million children living on the street...kids runaway because the world doesn't listen. I remember being told, but your mom is your mom...after I told people about being beaten at home. This song gave those kids a voice...!
