This is a very common accident. Although he didn't have the mag in, there was one in the chamber. ALWAYS assume any gun is loaded. Always pull the slide to empty the chamber after releasing the mag.
"Trained professionals" should really consider using PowerPoint for firearm safety classes.

Im still puzzled on how the gun went off.. He had another person check to make sure the gun was empty,, There was no magazine in, The slide was cocked back and the chamber open (should have ejected the round in the chamber, if there was one). When he engaged the slide, the chamber should have been empty.
He must have been carrying another gun.
I hope he was OK, From the looks of it ,, He was hit in the muscle. Cause if it was his thigh bone he would not have been able to stand up.
