Pershkrimi videos:This is a slide show made with photographs of Maria Callas as Bellini's La Sonnambula, one of her greatest roles although she had sung it only two years: 1955 and 1957. The photos are from Luchino Viscontis's production, performed in Milan (March 1955 & 1957), Cologne (04 & 06 July 1957), and Edinburgh (19, 21, 26 & 29 August 1957). Elvino was sung by Cesare Valetti in 1955 and by Nicola Monti in 1957. The sound-track is from the second performance in Cologne, on 06 July 1957, with the Chorus and Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala, directed by Antonino Votto. The pictures -- when it was possible -- were chosen according to the text sung. If you like it, search for my other videos.
This is the first Amina's aria (Come per me sereno). It is the day of her engagement to Elvino. She expresses her gratitude to her foster-mother and the villagers. She says that her happiness is reflected in the beauty of nature around her. During the cabaletta (Sovra il sen la man mi posa), she embraces Teresa and taking her foster-mother's hand, places it over her heart.
