I'm not sure of the origins of tribal, but I do that we mix arabic and egyptian styles in my class. You don't sound stupid, questions are good :D. If someone does know the answer- I need to know too. :) OOO we just did choo choos the other night!

UGH. There are PLENTY of "traditional" Bellydancers here in America. We're not stupid (though i admit our current president is). Things change, things adapt. I doubt that that bellydance in India is exactly the same as it was say, 1000 years ago. Adding ballet, hip-hop, and "stripper" moves into bellydance (amoung other moves), adds elements that weren't there before. There is nothing wrong with that. Martial arts adapt and evolve, why not dance as well?

technically that's not american tribal style, which is the invention of carolena nericcio. she has stated that she doesn't want the term ATS used for anything that is not her invention. this is a sort of derivative of tribal, but it's not ATS. check out fat chance belly dance online; it's a lot better than this. and there's nothing wrong with taking a traditional form of dance and adding new things to it.

It may not be traditional, but it is a very unique idea. Belly dance is FULL of unique ideas. Sadie and Rachel Brice have totally unique styles and they are both amazing, as is Sera. Tribal Fusion can be just about anything. Try watching some videos on Tribal Revolution 2008 or Ethereal Tribal. Both are very interesting, not traditional, but very awesome. Besides, times change and so does dance. I don't see many people doing disco anymore.

Well, there's no denying they are a 'bunch of white chicks',however,the execution of belly dance moves requires a tremendous amount of control. The isolation and precision required is quite difficult. I find that belly dance in all its forms is an expression of the individual performing. Whether or not one likes this style of dance is a moot point in regard to the fact that it takes a great deal of dedication and passion to master. Wouldn't it be a dull world if we all liked the same thing?

They're so flat and vanilla, they're contantly trying to get into exotic, "Oriental" things to make themselves seem more sexy and/or interesting than they actually are, be it dance, food, yoga, religion, etc. Clowns.

Yeesh, people. Does the title say "Traditional Belly Dance"? It doesn't for me. It says "East Coast Tribal Bellydance." I'm sorry if this is not what East Coast Tribal Bellydance looks like in it's native India...oh wait, right! There is no East Coast Tribal Bellydance native to India! This is FUSION dance, and not meant to be traditional! Hope this clears things up for all of you who seem to have forgotten that dance is an art form, not a science, religion, or political platform.

I guess the French never should have touched ballet, either, it originated in Italy. I guess only Europeans are allowed to do ballet? Russian, you're out too. I guess only African Americans get to tap dance anymore...and I mean African AMERICANS, no Africans, because it originated in America. I'll make sure to get the memo out that you're only allowed to dance according to your ethnic background. Guess it's Riverdance for me...could be worse. Not a big fan of the polka...

I dont really care what its named.. the only thing that isnt realistic... or sorry "traditional" is the fact that they havent actually got any belly to dance with.. they have washboard stomachs.. lol..Native belly dancers have a lot more meat on their midriff... other than that.. good video!

ioport - there are many darker people who constantly try to make themselves prettier by becoming more "white". recently saw tv interviews on Asian eyelid corrections criticized for wanting to look Caucasian. Arab women especially around the Gulf but also in other Arab countries avoid the sun because being darker is a "shame" (stupid, I know) being "black" is a shame in these countries. arab women with olive skin use makeup to look white. in Japan the opposite of blush, whitener is used. See?
