Websites, articles, books and documentaries have put forward a variety of alternate theories to the government's account of what happened. The most popular of these is a documentary called "Loose Change." Now, a book dealing with many of these theories has just been published by the magazine Popular Mechanics, it's called "Debunking 9/11 Myths: Why Conspiracy Theories Can't Stand Up to the Facts." In a Democracy Now! national broadcast exclusive, we host a debate between the filmmakers of Loose Change and the editors of Popular Mechanics on 9/11.

I don't necessarily think Bush had anything to do with the planning, he could barely plan breakfast. There are alot of people behind the scenes, or even Cheney himself, who benefit financially. I also think it's possible they thought they were making a good decision for the people, and that the people just don't realise it. Ends justify the means. Greed, fear and lack of empathy make evil people.

I didnt say the 'truth' movement is entirely anti-USA, but it's leaders have three possible agendas:
1) Make money from gullible people who have an anti-authority disposition.
2) Promote an anti-Bush/USA political agenda.
3) Or both.
And I already know the REAL truth about 9/11. Its all in the official reports, of which NOTHING has been disproven by the laughably named 'truth' movement.

When governments stage false flag operations, the reports they release aren't truthful. The official reports released after pearl harbour didn't reveal they knew about it and let it happen. Official accounts of the Gulf of tonkin lie didn't reveal it was staged by the US. That would be counterproductive and defeat the purpose. Think for yourself.
Before you can accuse the official reports of not being truthful, you have to prove that 9/11 was a 'false flag' operation. 'Truthers' alot smarter than you have been trying to do that for years now & come up with ZERO evidence. NOTHING!

The typical OCTer upon initially hearing the possibility 9/11 was an inside job went "BULLSHIT!" and set about proving he was right. Smart people said "hmm that's interesting I want to learn more". That's the difference. To believe it wasn't an inside job you have to ignore hundreds of bizarre coincidences
Circumstantial evidence is not evidence! Its the product of imagination. Loose Change is a typical example of that. Avery wrote LC a fictional script that he then claimed as fact. He has since admitted LC is full of errors, dubious claims & comes to conclusions not backed up by facts. But you know that. You've seen the Hardfire debate no doubt.
Around every major world/news event conspiracy theorists spring up because there are gullible people willing to buy into their lies.
It's a flaw in your cognitive functioning to group everyone as "conspiracy theorists" as if it's an ailment, and these people have some agenda. In that group you're including Firemen, congressmen, victims families, engineers, architects, pilots, general public etc.
If Loose Change first edition was fact, why have they dropped so much of it from later editions? Surely there's only one truth, right?
You wont find ANY of it in LC.
Some errors: Fake calls. Pods under aircraft. Missiles fired before planes hit towers. No plane crash at Shanksville. Saying the official story said jet fuel vaporised AA77. Stand down orders....I could go on.
What amazes me is that people like you still give LC any credibility! THEY LIED! Not errors. LIES.
