Jo had perfect pitch, a standard rarely attainded by an artist and she was there at a time when so many of us related to her and her songs. A truly great loss.

Nelson Riddle did the arrangements. The Clooney show pretaped the music to get the possible sound, then the singers lip synched. As you can tell, Jo was terrible at lip synching because she sang a song differently each time. But she was as a singer perfection.

I really love Jo here, she sounds and looks fantastic. I was suprised how different she looked in the 60's compared to earlier photos.
I woudn't have thought it was the same person!! I think she's right up there with Kay Starr, Connie Francis, Lena, Ella, and Sarah. All different, but ALL GREAT in their own style.

We miss her terribly, but we are comforted by how peacefully she passed, at home, just as she wanted. It's a pleasure to read all of the lovely comments. Jo Stafford really was a fabulous singer. I think she deserves to be remembered and played today as much as, say, Billie Holliday still is. Seems to me that if a singer did not appear to be miserable or angry and have huge personal problems (ala Holliday), the critics give him/her short shrift.

is there anybody here that knows how to get YouTube to block the comments posted here by this sick individual? This is total internet abuse. As a YouTube customer, I don't feel I shouldn't be subjected to reading posts that are beyond "opinion" and meant to hurt a family who have just lost their mother...and someone who belongs in the pantheon of American music. I HAD THE PLEASURE OF SEEING JO IN BOSTON IN THE EARLY 50s. NO ONE CAN TOP HER. I FIRST HEARD HER WHILE CONVALECING IN AN ARMY HOSPITAL ON STATEN ISLAND IN 1944. SHE SANG 'LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY' FROM 'COVER GIRL' MAY HER FAMILY REST ASSURED THAT THEY WILL BE UNITED ONCE AGAIN IN CHRISTS PRESENCE.
SHE OUT DID HERSELF IN 'KISS OF FIRE' YES! those were the days, when people had values and 'truth' was present. rest in peace jo, we love you.

A lot of people screw up the meaning of "perfect pitch", wrongly taking it to mean the ability to sing on key. So if I may, for those who don't understand the term, "perfect pitch" is the ability to either identify the frequency or musical name of a specific tone, or reproduce a frequency, frequency level, or musical pitch without comparing the tone with any objective reference tone. I.E., if someone says, give me an "E", she can sing it perfectly without needing the piano as a guide!

It's quite ok irisMG, I already knew that. Just thought I'd mention it in case you felt I was screwing something up. With a vast collection of Jo's numbers, including most of hers and the Pied Pipers'78's I feel I have a grasp of the correct usage of the term. Perhaps correspondence not actually dealing with Jo's passing and the fond memories we fans have, belong in another context.
