Why would oil companies be against a Carbon Cap system?
They will be able to change from selling oil, a real product, to "carbon credits", a product that is merely paper rights to emit X amount of carbon per year.
Their margins will increase and they will actually be paid to shut down oil rigs thus making oil more expensive and profitable than it is now.

The earth is much cooler now than in 1998. The cooling is noticeable. According to NASA satellite temperature sensors and the Met Office Hadley Centre in the UK there has been no year since 1998 that has been as warm or warmer than 1998. Also those same NASA satellite sensors show quick cooling in the earth since January 2007.
All this time though since 1998 co2 levels have been rising.

Imminent disaster, eh? Can you be more over dramatic? You think Al Gore and his ridiculous proposals will help? He talks about rising energy costs and how it's hurting people, yet he wants to add carbon taxes to the already existing taxes on fuel which will raise the cost even more, and hurt people even more. He completely contradicts himself. The bottom line is he's invested heavily in the green companies and he wants to see returns on those before he's pushing up daisies.

You really are delusional, you think that if carbon taxes are leveed against the producers of anything that burns, that the cost of that tax wont just be tacked on to the product? Thats money we have to pay, there is no free lunch or taking money from OPEC and putting it back here. Al Gore lied to you.

First of all, did you actually read my post? What about the cut in the payroll tax to offset the effects of carbon taxes.
What does that mean? Well, if you think about it it means transferring money away from big oil and the Persian Gulf and diverting it to the American people, well, those that actually work and pay Payroll taxes.
That's how American workers can be helped. As it stands Bush is only helping Big Oil and those in the Persian Gulf. How is that working right now?

As for global warming, look at the earths history in deep sea cores, millions of years at a glance, accurate to a tenth of a degree, and see the truth about abrupt climate change, especially at the rate at which the temp changes. the average change is two degrees C per century, both up and down, so the 1.5 degrees that the earth has warmed over the last hundred years or so is nothing new and nothing to worry about. Stop living in fear about the world ending, its how they exert control over you.
