Luciano,your comments are really cheap...Di Stefano was born to be a tenor! He had the voice , the talent, the sensitivity!!!Even if this version is not one of his best , still he is the great PIPO,for those who have ears to hear!
Does anyone have any updates on di Stefano? The ony information I have is that he was in coma few years ago. Thanks for any news!

how sad the stories of this tour are... i mean, even through all of this di stefano was smoking it up in his hotel room wherever he was... and callas always was experiencing vocal trouble on these tours... you can't help but love her, though.

I think you partially right. I don't think he never had a good technique and he was a pretty good actor. But I think you're right when you say that he never had a natural operatic tone. It's always a little bit too clear to be operatic... always on the edge... but still never truly the right tone. You can't deny his popularity and even Pavarotti said that he has been one of his favorite tenor for his acting talents.

One of the last concert of Callas/Di Stefano during the farewell tour in Japan in 1974. The Critics were terrible... but who cares about the Critics ? The Public went crazy and just wanted to see, hear and applaud the Legend. Of Course the voice is just the shadow of what it used to be 20 years before, but who cares ? Actually it wasn' that bad, and her presence and her magic magnetism are still there ! Callas throught her Art and genius wil live forever in the memory of mankind.

I still think DS was in great shape still vocally - what a voice ! Callas was also good considering what she was left with vocally at that time in her life. regardless of their voce they performed very well - better than what you see today anyway.
