Well... It is not the same, but the theme is the same. Btw: I really like this classic version and it's similarities to our well-known MGS-Main Theme.
To my mind it's really ridiculous that this theme must not be used for the MGS4-Theme!

Considering that Kojima has watched just about every war movie in existance, (he said once in an interview that he's watched a lot of old war movies which inspired him to make the Metal Gear series.) including Russian ones, I'm pretty sure he's heard of the music before... He does have a habit of "copying" things like art and characters.
Nonetheless I still love him for MGS. :)

Obviously the Tappy guy didn't realize the game was going to be a global hit and borrowed the melody without reporting it to Hideo. MGS4 tuned down this theme, probably because Hideo already know the fact. One thing is clear: there is no such coincidence; mgs theme is definitely derived from Winter Road.
