I think it's one of those songs that's not be perfected yet; most versions seem to be lacking something. I would have liked to have seen Bowie give it a go; think he would have give it that extra kick.

i disagree with the person who said all the versions are lacking something. i love most of the versions done on this song. i think everytime someone sings it, it's completely new and brings something completely different. it's a beautiful song and everyone interprets it in their own way and brings different emotions to it

for raw emotion you can't go past jeff buckley. he milked that song for every morsel that was in it. i miss him. i wonder what wondrous albums he could have come up with had he not drowned in the mississippi. i guess at least he's up there with his dad. i love leonard but jeff nailed that song like jesus to a cross. a platinum cover of a platinum song.

I gotta say I enjoy John Cale's version the most, not sure why, but it just seems to have an extra quality I can't put my finger on, but its an amazing song no matter who really sings it. I just think John Cale's goes above and beyond.

No senrab, Rufus only does it on the soundtrack. The version of "Hallelujah" in the Shrek movie itself was John Cale's version.
