3. Chechnia was different because majority of population were against separating from Russia, which you can see now. You cant even compare Ossetia to Chechnia of 90-s. Not true - they didn't report it in the West accuratley AT all, I was watching the media of all sides, it was a disgrace how bias Western media was. It only spoke about "Russian Invasion" - Georgian troops were not even reported to be in Ossetia to begin with! I guess they just suddenly appeared there and 2000 people died spontaneously! Andy, takeing territory back has nothing to do with joining nato.
Heres what happened: Georgia wanted to take the territory back. Russia also wanted the territory. Whan georgia didn't join the nato, it became green lght for russians to provacate the attack of georgia. August was the last chanse, for after august its almost imposible to move over the caucasian mountains. The faoult is on the stupidity of georgian goverment.
