Ancient Albanians of Southern Italy

The Arbëreshë (also known as Albanians, Arvanites, Arnauts, Arbanassi, Albanci at different times in History) are an early Medieval Albanian population that migrated to Southern Italy (mainly in Sicily, Calabria, Puglia, and Napoli), from all Ethnic Albanian lands.
These ethnic Albanian locations include Montenegro (Mali i Zi), Kosova (Dardhania), Macedonia (Ilirida), Southern Epirus (Çamëria and Thesprotia), Peloponese (Morea and as far as Athens).
The Arbëreshë are proud people whose migrations from Albania were caused by the invasions of the Ottoman Empire. Some of them left before the Ottomans occupied Epirus and the Albanian Highlands (Malësia), and some migrate after their leader SCANDERBEG (who is the greatest Albanian National Hero), died in an old age, after holding back the Ottomans for over a quarter century. This was something unheard of at the time, as the Mongolian hordes were the most horrifying Asiatic barbarians that ever invaded Eastern Europe and the Near East.
The Arbëreshë feel very strong about their Albanian identity and their Illyrian ancestry, and to this day, they are organized in strong Arbëreshë communities that are helped by the Italian government.
The Arbëreshë, among other more ancient Illyrian people of Southern Italy, have contributed enormously into the culture, gastronomy, folklore, and language of the Southern Italy.
Also, the Arbëreshë are e very powerful source for Albanian history and culture, since the Arbëreshë are people of Ethnic Albania, before if was invaded and influenced from the Ottomans.
