Trust me when I tell you that the tempo is off. I have been a drummer for over 30 years, opened up for some of the hottest musicians and groups. Listen to the drummer count it off and then listen. Within 30 seconds the song slows down. Has nothing to do with a version. It has to do with tempo and being able to keep time.

This same arrangement has been used by CHAKA many times, not just on this occasion! So if CHAKA has used this slower tempo to SANG this song then it's ok with me and most of the viewers of this video! In fact it's one of the best versions. So since u happen not to like it stop viewing it!

improvisation has little to do with how it should or shouldnt be it just is. this "off" version is the funkiest rendition I have heard, it gives her more space to launch the notes.

I think the tempo may be draggin on purpose. I agree that it is a bit slower than the recording but Chaka probably arranged it like that to make it different for her live performances or at least this one. It gives the song a more funky feel, and allows her more room to do her thang vocally!
