F the haters who don't know good R&R
They had the best rhythm section you could hope for, some brilliant songs (some of which will be classics forever), and Pete Townsend.
Townsend was a great composer (eclectic taste, good sense of humour, awareness that he was chronicling his time) and an awesome guitarist who'll influence another generation or two.
But I always get the impression from live Who that he's not really trying, just posing and playing the guitar hero.
1/3 music, 1/3 energy, 1/3 posing
