Bidu Sayao studied for a time with the great tenor Jean de Reszke, and it certainly paid off. Her tone is beautifully pure and colored, her technique refined and elegant, and her artistry subtle and nuanced. She excelled in lyric and coloratura roles, especially those in the French repertoire, as well as in Mozart's operas. This is a moving and beautiful performance.

Two Mozart roles that Sayao sang at the MET were Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Susanna (Marriage of Figaro). She also made a few recordings from these Mozart operas as well as others, I believe.

Thanks. As a fan of hers, I can't believe all these recordings that I was unaware of. This made me do some more searching, though. She had such an amazing technique that she sang everything from Nedda to Zerlina!

I think that Callas is amazing, but there isn't another word to describe Bidu Sayão, except PERFECT!
She is such a great singer, with such a amazing voice... and she is Brazilian just like me :D
