Desi says he sees a bright future. Too bad that he died of lung cancer four years after this interview. If he were still alive today (2008) he would be 91 years old. Lung cancer is a terrible way to go. An aunt of mine died five years ago at the age of 64 or lung cancer. Like Desi, her smoking finally caught up with her.

Desi, Desi, Desi....it still hurts that he blew his marriage to Lucy.
Lucy has said that in hindsight she shouldn't have divorced Desi, and it seems clear from this interview that he still loved her.
Drink, womanizing, spending so much time at work: this killed their marriage.
When Desi was dying, Lucille Ball came by and there was an awkward silence:neither knew what to say to each other. Then their daughter Luci Arnaz put on an 'I Love Lucy' video, and the two of them starting laughing again

Both Lucy and Desi remarried in the early 1960's shortly after there divorce. Both remained married to their second spouses until Desi's wife, Edie, passed away in the mid 80's, and Lucy remained married to Gary Morton until her death in 1989.

That was the premise of the show. She was the daffy yet loveable housewife who caused chaos when she interfered with the life/job of her man. A little chauvenistic, but the show seems to mock chauvenism too.
It wasnt Desi that said she was nuts, it was a fan of the show who sent him a letter.
The letter was refering to Lucy Ricardo, the T.V show character, not Lucille Ball the person.

Yes, wasn't it remarkable how Cuban Mr. Arnaz managed to make "I Love Lucy" during a time when American television was so dull and homogenized? I watch a "Lucy" every day, and it seems that he speaks or sings in Spanish in almost every episode. His heritage is often mentioned, his Cuban friends and relatives sometimes visit. And Lucy is made to look like a doof who hasn't bothered to learn much about her husband's (and her son's) heritage.

Desi Arnaz was an amazing person. It's so great that he still talked about Lucy in a loving and respectful way, so many years later. It's too bad that you rarely saw her do the same for him.
He was extremely under appreciated, probably because Lucy was so great as well. But could you imagine I love Lucy without Desi? He was a perfect straight man for her comedy. She was amazing, but Desi made her a star with his knack for business and marketing.
