Rafael Mendez - Haydn Trumpet Concerto
Pershkrimi videos:In this second installment of the Rafael Mendez special entitled "The Trumpet," Mendez begins with discussing the origins of the trumpet and then plays an exceptional rendition of the third movement of the Haydn trumpet concerto.
For those of you familiar with this piece it will be a breath of fresh air to hear Mendez's version. This was the first piece written for the keyed trumpet, and Haydn wrote this concerto to really showcase this brand new instrument. Unlike other classical trumpet performances of this piece where the trumpet sounds like a part of the orchestra, Mendez electrifies the show by playing with such vigor and virtuosity. I think Mendez is doing Haydn a great favor by playing this piece not as part of an orchestra, but as a trumpet player. Haydn intended this to showcase the trumpet, and Mr. Mendez does just that.

| Because his trumpet is in a different key and he is able to play different fingerings for the same note. The average trumpet is in Bb and this piece is in Eb. My trumpte tutor is able to do this and he showed me how... thanks ; ) |

| Mendez was one of the greatest trumpet technicians ever. I saw and heard him play in the 1950's and he was unbelieveable. Please don't make fun of the video and his sound. His concert career was extensive. |

| It is really annoying to me when ignorant trumpet players conclude that Mendez could not possibly be ranked among the greatest in the world. These same players never took the time to study their own heroes, or even try and talk to them in person. If they had, they would have discovered that almost every single principal trumpet in the U.S. has been profoundly influenced by Mendez. Many of your heroes are quoted expressing the same type of praise for Mendez that has flooded these message boards. |

| Don't take that as an accomplishment. It's not that hard to play 1st trumpet parts. Second part is just as important as 1st. If anything it's harder, because you have to ignore the main lines at times and actually count rather then go on memory and listening skills. |

So what if you play first chair, so do i, and my band is going to BOA this year at Indy, and we played last year at Orchestra hall in Chicago. So, stop bragging and just take in all that Mendez has to offer =] |

| His horn is not in Eb, its in Bb. What he is doing is all pure skill and knowledge, his articulation is immaculate and his technique is unmatched. I am first chair in my band as well and we are going to BOA this year, and we played at Orchestra hall in Chicago last year, all grade 5's and above. Quit showing off your chair placements and just enjoy Mendez pure genius. |
