From Muslim sources, yes, Muhammad consumated the marriage when Aisha became a woman at the age of nine.
This seems abhorant, but different cultures have different norms. Can Aisha at 10 or 11 look after a family? May be not in the WEst, but with the family support system that they had, it appears that there was problem.

yasirsaeed, I agree with you about religion being misused, but disagree that terrorism is necessary because of oppression/occupation. Targeting civilians is coward, regardless of circumstances. The end doesn't justify the means. If they're so smart to target civilians they can find ways to target soldiers. A decent Muslim would abstain from atacking a civilian if she/he can't atack combatants. Otherwise you can't claim Islam s a religion of peace all the while you find excuses for terrorism.

Hasnat I totally agree about Israel, but I also think his point about reform in Islam is valid. Islam has been misused in many countries to promote bacward and criminal laws. Lebanese Muslims (where I come from) are modern and secular, so it's not about religion but about a reform in which all Muslims are allowed the freedom and the education to choose their destinies, as well as a system that empowers the moderate who have a more reasonable and modern and compassionate interpretation of Isam
