The tai dum are usually light skined people like the upper tai in china but the clothes they wear are usually is black in colour. Most tai groups like darker colour clothes.

Hi Tai pee nong! would some one help me understand about our Tai history .We have Tai Mouai , Tai La, Tai Lorn ( khao ) Tai Deng (red)
Tai Nong, Tai Muang Khim, and a lot of other Tai in north Vietnam some are in north part of Laos some are in the south of China.
We also have Tai in Thailand call Tai songdam,
and the big surprise for me is Tai Shan in Burma population over 4 to 5 millions.Who are these Tai people that we never heard of ?
help me if you guys know about this.

In 1254 Lao ppl lost war to the Mongol Keng Kis Khan. Lao ppl escaped from Nong Sae in 5 major routes:
1. To the North Eastern section of India and become Assam. They are Naga ppl.
2. to north of Burma and became Tai Yai in Shan State.
3. follow Mae Nam Nan and added to Lao pll wha came earlier in 740 and becaome Lao Lana
4. fallow Mekong River added up with lao ppl who came earlier & become Lao Lan Xang.
5. last group fallow Mae Nam Dam, Mae Nam Deng who became Tai Dam and Tai Deng.

When French Imperialist lost war in WW II, and lost the battle on Dien Bien Fu to Communist North Vietnam (CNV) in 1950's, they gave this section Muong Lai Muong Thaeng of Laos to North Vietnam. Many Lao Tai Dam escaped from CNV. These are Lao Tai Dam who stay behind.

wow, this is so cool. i am Tai Lue, i was born and raised in the golden triangle, chaengrai, chaengsan. my father is from Burma and my mom from Muengsing northern laos. I know nothing about my background. except knowing how to speak the language and its usually mixed with thai and laotion. Pls. help me understand my tai lue people. kop koun muck na ja!

u don't usually hear about our Tai people because most of us claimed to be laos if they're from laos and some claimed to be thai if from thailand. when asked i always tell people i'm tai lue. but u get the point! thx for writin'! its nice to know 'bout our tai people

Oukham, in 'Tai Dam Lum1' your stance is TaiDum language is close to Yao and Hmong. It is very interesting. I am not sure about languages. But, about 50% I think I can clear out this content in Lao, but not sure about relation to Yao or Hmong for I cannot master in the languages for the moment. Hope, some days. In 'XiengPorMaeAayNorng HuqSueng', I cannot catch the meanings of 'Xieng'and 'HuqSueng'. If some one can tell, please.

Tai dum dialect is just another Tai dilaect much like Lao, Thai and Shan. It's grouped in with Southwestern Tai speaking branch.For those that dont know much about Lao history, Northwestern Vietnam, where Taidum and Tai kow live, used to belong to Lao until the French gave it to Vietnam.
