It comes after President Dmitry Medvedev promised that "Russia will not close its eyes on the deaths of Russian citizens in South Ossetia." Several Russian peacekeepers have been killed in clashes with Georgian forces.

Russia has its rights to defend its people and to respond to provocation by the Georgian forces. In a broader sense, this war is in fact a game between Russia and the West. I am glad that Russia won it (and the West lost it). How funny to see the US and its allies making speeches to "support" Georgia. That is the support you actually got, Mr. Georgian president.

1 º Why Russia do not gave the independence to the Chechenian people when all they were wishing it?
2 º Why Russia gives the independence to South Ossetia when it is not his territory?
3 º Why Russia gives the independence tu South Ossetia and not to North Ossetia if there are no territorial interests hidden? If in both regions live the same osetian people.

1. First of all, Chechnya had and has a biggest autonomy, they can speak their own language, have own government etc. Second, not all chechens wanted to live independent from Russia. Unfortunately in the beginning of 90s the religious fanatics (vakhabits) captured the autority there in Chechnya, who almost returned republic back in the past, children couldn't go to school, wemen had to wear paranga, all money Russia send to the people those bandits (supported from abroad) used to buy gun.

To give independence to such people would be a crazy mistake.
S.Osetia was never allowed to have any autonomy, their language was forbidden. First Georgian president said, "Georgia for georgians. Ossetians are rubbish and they have to be pushed out by georgian broom". Even though they kept S.Ossetia for years illegally. When USSR collapsed, all separated republics had to give autonomy regions to say at referendum if they want to go with them or not. Georgia didn't allow it to the ossetians.
