Well, we know that's a lie becuase the the Tu-160 has absolutely no defensive armament what so ever and who in their right mind would take a supersonic bomber and turn it into a subsonic aerial artillery platform? Demono's comment makes no sense what so ever.

okay who ever thinks someone would actualy mod. a supersonic bomber to be a subsonic gun ship is retarded....the closes thing the russians have to being a gun ship is there wack off version of the Apachee Long Bow...corse there version of the Long Bow can drop bombs and is the fastest Helocopter in the world...But anyway...the Russains can have there supersonic bomber...its payload is inferior to the B-52's payload copacity...

The Tu-160 can carry more ordinance...though 60,000 lbs is NOTHING to take lightly. This jet is up there in age...but she has proven herself.

The Tu-160 is a very capable startegic bomber. Its performance and abilities are impressive. It certainly bears a resemblance to the B-1 although it is quite different in size, payload, speed, range and weight than the B-1.

Because it has all the capabilities that are required in todays environment, long range and long loiter time. Replacing it would be incredible expensive, and barring a major change in political reality I would say just build more B-52's with the latest 2045 technology tached on. Not that they'll do that they spend billions of dollars designing a replacement

ask any vietnam vet about B-52 arc light strikes...they would light up the skies and shake the ground for miles around...the B-52 was used in ending the seige at Khe Sahn...a daring FO called in B-52 strikes closer than any ever attempted before
