You're right. It was derogatory, even if it wasn't meant that way. George Winston is great, and most of his stuff is his own. Although, you should hear his take on Vince Guaraldi (composer for "Charlie Brown" cartoons.)

I know this music sounds beautiful to most who have commented on this page. But this music is really so simple to both compose and play- it's just a series of repeated chords within a single repeating pattern. Not that simplicity is bad, but there really isn't much compositional or performance skill or talent here. It really does not take much to get a beautiful sound out of the piano. I suggest all present type in "Ravel Jeux D'eau" in the search box. Listen to a real composer for the piano

A dear friend gave me this link, and I am so glad she did. A passionate piece, played with sensitivity. Nature is hard to mimic, harder still to describe in words, let alone music, but he makes a good point, that this is about the composer looking at and describing his feeling as the rain falls in a forest. I can only imagine how my friend would play this piece and how her interpretation would differ from the composer's. I can dream...

i listened to it. Seems to me that his chord changes are too frequent and i became bored with the song. the man is a great player and perhaps that was a technically impressive composition but isn't it the output that matters in the end? Winston's pieces are more on track with a singular idea which is what makes music easy to listen to while Ravel creates and elaborate showcase but without resolve. Just my opinion though.

Great. George knows how to write a melodic piano piece. However, lately he has been working on some bluesy stuff that sounds too honkey-tonkish and old. He said that he was working on that mostly. I think he should stick to his melodic/new age stuff, its much better.

I like the way he said how a song doesn't really sound like a season but its the person whos looking at the season, this song to him sounds like spring into summer, to me it's summer into fall also it sounds like a chandelier dancing too.
I'm going to see him in concert at the Beverly Arts Center in Chicago 10/16, can't wait. Gorgeous or should I say Georgeous music.

Alas! Why did George Winston's concert in Montrose have to be canceled! Ah well, they said it was because of a surgery or something.
As for the people saying that his music is simple, some of it is, yes, but I think the reason many people like it is because he is good at making the notes flow together. The chordal changes are subtle, which gives it a smooth sound. It's not overly complicated, but there are some intricacies..you just have to listen closely.

Word....Im going to the concert at Mayo clinic in Minn. thats was orignally cancled in april peace, simple is not a accurate word though, Its all about his style and hoew he plays, he loves playing his own music which I admire and you can hear it in every song
