Fusion 2100

Pershkrimi videos:
Is nuclear fusion the energy source of the future? This 9 minute movie shows a physics lesson in 2100 about how nuclear fusion became the dominant energy source it is then. Explains the basics of fusion physics, as well as the technology needed to harnes it on earth.
The film was made by Max Planck Institute of Plasma Physics (IPP) on behalf of EFDA (European Fusion Development Agreement) with funding from the European Union (script and direction: Herbert Hackl; production: Naumann Film, Munich).

This ENTIRE video ... ( 1 month ago by cabbotron)
This ENTIRE video is trying to PROGRAM everyone into BELIEVING that NUCLEAR FUSION ENERGY can be produced using a TOKOMAK reactor. However, based on the energy required to produce the plasma, a SINGLE WATT of energy has never been produced from a tokomak reactor. This is because no one understands what causes nuclear fusion in the first place! There is NO EXPERIMENTAL DATA that conclusively posits that nuclear fusion is a high temperature process.
You are correct ... ( 1 month ago by joshuaki3)
You are correct that a net gain of fusion energy has yet to be obtained in a controlled way. However, there has yet to be an official attempt to do so. Previous tokamaks were built smaller then was required to generate net fusion gain for the purposes of studying the plasma physics in greater detail before embarking on a fusion gain sized plasma. With regard to the temperature required for fusion reactions, I'll refer you to the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) website.
There you will find ... ( 1 month ago by joshuaki3)
There you will find volumes of experimental data detailing precisely the reaction cross sections associated with a wide variety of collision energies. These reactions probabilities are peaked at around 100 million degrees Centigrade or about 15 keV for deuterium and tritium.

So in the year 2100 ... ( 3 weeks ago by DeimosSaturn)
So in the year 2100, for some reason, adolescent humans still need to be educated in the format of words with images? Would we even need fusion reactors in the year 2100? Couldn't we just cover every available surface of the planet with photo voltaic material skipping the danger of radiation all together? Fusion seems silly to me. Solar is the most rational way to go.
The problem with ... ( 3 weeks ago by DeimosSaturn)
The problem with these toroidal plasma fusion reactors is you can't generate power with them. Plus, they'll never crack the problem of building a chamber that doesn't destroy itself after a few seconds of use. So they'll need Helium 3 to fuel the reaction, and that's a material resource the corporations can control, unlike the energy from the sun which is free to all. Helium 3 is just a future version of oil.
This video seems ... ( 1 week ago by birdeman5)
This video seems very naive, although we may figure out the secret to fusion we are not in the position right now to harvest its energy.
Not even close.
fusion is wholly ... ( 1 week ago by ichersue)
fusion is wholly different from fission which does present the danger of radiation, and note that solar is also fusion, because you take energy from the sun which is powered by fusion. it's all about transformation of energy
Yeah, lightbulbs ... ( 1 week ago by DeimosSaturn)
Yeah, lightbulbs also emit radiation. It's called light and heat. The Harshest portions (incompatible with life) of the energy frequencies the sun gives off is filtered before it arrives on the earth's surface by the atmosphere and the Magnetic poles. In any case, by the year 2100, radiation wouldn't be a problem anyway, what with cybernetic bodies.
Your other points ... ( 3 days ago by Shniva)
Your other points aside, how can you be so certain that in the year 2100 we'll all have cybernetic bodies?
Just because film makers have a vision of the future we see in their movies doesn't mean it'll actually happen.
It might happen, but why deny the mystery of the future with present predictions? :P The future will most likely be vastly different than anyone can imagine.
My views to your statement. Nothing else =o

Well, People like Jules Vern, Nikola Tesla, Isaac Asimov, and Vernor Vinge were able to make pretty accurate predictions about future advancements and for the most part they have come true. I'm going by the predictions of modern futurists/science fiction writers like Shirow Masamune. THey base their predictions on bleeding edge current technological developments and extrapolate them with economics.

Yeah I found that out after a quick google search :P I'm a big fan of Ghost in a Shell, Appleseed but only knew him by real name.
