i'm not 100% sure, but i was speaking with a close friend of Derricks and they told me the song is his and not Max's, and that max did not write those lyrics, apparently bunny lee will also verify this, derrick did not want to sing the song and passed it to bunny and from there he gave it to Max, so i hear.

i just had it confirmed that the music is by Derrick and the lyrics by Bunny Lee!!(trust him!) who is derricks brother in law or cousin or something, but bunny gave Max some rights to the song. This is what i heard anyway, but i guess u will always get different verisons of the story when it comes to reggae+JA...

I agree with rremote. Something about the late 60's Tighten Up days (and even before then in the Bluebeat era - mid-60's) I still have my Tighten Up's on vinyl. If I ever feel down and fed up all I have to do is chuck on some Rocksteady and I'm in heaven.

Hi tuktukskagal, Yep. early Bluebeat in the coffee bars. Purple hearts and dexi's. Hanging on my big sister's Mod coat tails. Then Rocksteady for me in the youth clubs. Rows of guys dancing in unison, inch pefect steps and split second timing. Stopped buying Tighten Up when Lovers Rock took over I'm afraid. It doesn't grab my soul like the early stuff. Just listen to Sufferer again and float away. And now I'm just an old geezer. Ahhh memories. Keep rockin steady gal.
