Que Callas era perfecta? No, para nada! Callas tenía muchos errores. Pero fué gracias a sus errores y no pese a ellos que era única e irrepetible. Su valiente improvisación en los pequeños sectores de su vasto rango vocal en los que no tenía dominio total era preciosa. Su timbre violinesco era desagradable los primeros segundos...pero despues era inolvidable. Su emotividad era sin par y muy pocas sopranos han sido tan versatiles y han abordados roles tan diferentes!

Do you think one must be an exeptional opera singer to critise others ? I think not. Literary critics do not have to be writers...
Callas WAS NOT ideal. I don't know why you're trying to make a goddess out of her. Despite her talent, she made a lot of mistakes and some of her interpretations are weak. This is clearly stupid to think that some people cannot be criticised.

Maria como todo el mundo tenia sus puntos buenos y malos. Cierto es que era y será por siempre una diva, pues desde lo más bajo consiguió llegar al corazón de muchas personas con su voz única. No era perfecta, pero yo creo que se merece la admiración que la gente le profesa. María por siempre y para siempre!!! XD

I've found that the beauty in Callas' singing is not in her tone, which was never amazing. The magic of Callas is in her incredible drama and communication of the text. She, like Flemming, made the best out of a mediocre instrument with great technique and drama, making it something truly spectacular

A great deal of the beauty of this aria descents in the italian language. Italian is very, very beautiful,but.....this is a french opera and that demands french. Not italian.
I don't think this is really a great role of Maria Callas. Its certainly an amazing performance for a soprano with such a large , but no particular fine, voice. She can do much, much better as a Verdinian or Puccini heroin, Bellini, Spontini, etc. I don't like her in french. Her Carmen also was a big mistake.

So many years after her passing, we still have no one else to discuss at such length? Yes there are shortcomings, but what a rich legacy to music in spite of them. Those with negative comments ought to sing it better themselves before throwing stones.

My dear marcelojas,
I can't understand the portugees language, but yet I understand that you don't agree with my opinion about the divine Maria Callas. As I said: I find her great and amazing in her italian opera's. But not in french oopera's. That demands something else !
I don't know what. So many french sopranos have sung Thais, Carmen and Louise much, much better.
It is a shame that at the end of her fantastic career nobody dared to say that she had to stop.

In 1957 she would'nd or could´nt open her mouth for singing the seguidilla: la la la lalalalala. She sang lu lu lu lullullullullu. I remember so well that in 1957 I recorded the first broadcast of Carmen with Callas on the Dutch radio on my self/made taperecorder. It was a great disappointment.
Nevertheless she is one of the greatest! There is only one Callas. The devine !

She could choose the great Pippo, the one and only del Monaco, the unique Björling, and so on. Why this coulerness Gedda ? Was she afraid not to be the stella assulate of this recording ? I don't know. But it is a missed chanche. It could have been much better.

callas a été magnifique en français, et en toutes les langues qu'elle a chanté!!! Alors callas est magnifique dans 99,9%; mais persone ne peut être parfait!

'Trullullul' in the Gypsy Song too in the EMI recording of Carmen. I can't say that it bothers me.
