Walter Payton THREW 12 touchdown passes ... not caught, THREW. He was the best backfield blocker of his era, and excellent receiver not to mention he could run like hell. Show me Barry's ring ... show me how he inspired his team to greatness (or even "not bad"), or inspired ME to strive to never quit and stand for principle. Walter was a great human being above football player, above running back. No comparison.

I think Barry Sanders is the best Running back all time.. He didnt even have a solid team like walter..he could of easily smashed the record but he was on a losing team and didnt desire to beat the record he wanted 2 win a ring and he couldnt so he retired..i think the top 3 rbs are sweetness,barry, and LT if his career still keeps goin the way it is... Walter was probably a better blocker and etc..but not a better runner..Earl campbell should also be thrown in this mix i believe

I agree, "LT II" will be of the top 3 but of guys who arent playing anymore I think it goes Barry, Walter, and Earl Campbell, I believe Gale Sayers would've been the best of all time at his rate but injuries to both of his knees ended his career much too short

oh I definitely think Jim Brown is one fo the greatest ever, he was also one of the greatest pure athletes, he played lacrosse aat syracuse and they had to change 2 big rules because of him, he was fast and could physically dominate you
