"It is a fact that throughout and after the explosion of Gorgopotamo Bridge, the conflicts between ELAS and EDES during the German occupation continued even at times there existed receipts of payments, and even collaboration.
"In October 1943, as the biggest conflict between the two groups occurred, For Zerva to ensure his banknotes, it did not suffice the support and intervention of British, but responded to the requests made by Germans for a collaboration against ELAS. This fact that is told to us by the Director of the Second office of Edelweiss 1st Mountain Brigade Karl Heinz Rothfus in Bonn in 1981. This remained hidden from the greatest majority of EDES fighters and activists since Zervas was under protection.
The reason for this was that there was confusion between the antarte forces we thought about requesting contact between those organizations that were closer to our political targets. With Bikel's intervention from the International Red Cross, we connected for the first time with General Zervas and EDES. These contacts continued also under the control of Western Greece by General of 22nd SS, Hubert Lanz. That is when their contact expanded. Our aim was to neutralize the areas that were controlled by the nationalist fighters so we could concentrate our forces against the Red Teams (Partisan) of EAM/ELAS. Our second aim was to maintain the seashore areas free from those teams that would help with the disembarkation of Allies. In November 1943 I was transferred to Yugoslavia so I do not have an immediate concept of what actually happened until mid-1944. I know however, that the 22nd SS developed more those contacts and that they did not dissolve until the end of the enemy attacks. They did succeed in neutralizing large areas.
During the time when Rothfuss was absent from Greece, and specifically on February 1944, as it turned out from plenty of German archives and including dossier number 5960044/3, contacts with Zerva ended mainly with an agreement where it stated:
1. Silent armistice until new update.
2. Exchange of several information about EAM especially before the operations of both parties, and... German support against ELAS.
3. Absolute secrecy so Zerva does not endanger the alliance efforts.
"We absolutely documented and confirmed this as soon as we returned to Greece in May 1944. I also know that after the 22nd SS retreat from Greece, every effort was vanquished to ensure that the armament that we left behind to not fall on the hands of the (communist) Partisans. Thus it is not surprising that with the same logic, we left our ammunitions and weaponry to EDES."

Zervas were forsed to work with ELAS as ELAS got more power in Greece and were better organized.
