This has to be the masterpiece of film making - Fritz Lang's Metropolis was made in 1927 - incredibly he was using some of the earliest techniques in special effects for movies - mirroring, superimposing etc, even the robot looks like something out of Star Wars.
The film was originally panned by the critics, it wasn't a commercial success in its day.
As it was made in 1927, Metropolis was a silent movie, so various music scores have been written over the years more recently by Giorgio Moroder....however the soundtrack i've used on this clip is by Quivver aka John Graham
The Film has recently been remastered for dvd sale.

Metroplolis ((the anime movie)) was kinda based off of Fritz Lang's silent movie Metropolis. I was looking for clips of the anime and I found stuff from the silent movie and instantly I knew that the director had brought elements of the metropolis into the anime

This is my favorite film of all time. I think that you have really captured the film's essence with the music by Quiwer. Isn't it amazing that it comes full circle almost a decade later?

The creator of the Metropolis manga admitted that he never even saw the classic Metropolis, but a poster he saw of it greatly inspired him to create the story. ^^

Oh, of course. ^^ It should be noted that the creator of the manga (that the movie was based on) was not alive when the movie was made. So it is very likely that the ones who worked on the movie did derive much inspiration from the Fritz Lang version when they elaborated on the orginal - as it was what originally fueled Osamu Tezuka to create the story.

Anyone know what "UTANOH THUMO" (assuming I read it correctly) refers to in the cityscape scene? This is written vertically along a skyscraper on the left of the screen in the light-and-shade traffic shot just after the aeroplane shot... Couldn't find any reference anywhere to this!
