You must be joking! I understand that Bjorling might not have had the best Italian but in terms of singing arias of this sort he is superb., surpassing most any Italian tenor. So not wanting to listen to Bjorling for such a reason is rather silly. Don't you see how he just blazes through every note and word like wildfire. Like Jurgen Ketsing noted "he has lightning fast articulation" most singers smear or stutter it all.

So this is "Fram för framgång!" Excellent! That's the first time I've ever heard Jussi speak. I'm surprised that his speaking voice sounds so... Ordinary. His singing though is everything but!

The story is this: Jussi plays an unknown singer (haha)who wants to get a job singing on the radio. So he rushes in and interrupts a boring lecture (held for all Swedish school pupils) and shouts "I CAN sing!" and then goes on to prove it! (luckily for him there seems to have been a whole orchestra in the studio as well...)

And it means "Hail to success!" (it´s really a word-play that can´t be translated.) Di tu se fedele he sings in Swedish on a sailing boat! (a rather fast going one.)A very windy (airy) aria! (in this case.)

What a great post this is! Not just the wonderful voice of course, but you're right about the orchestra just showing up (HAHAHA, funny how that seems to happen) Love the teacher's great outfit, especially the shoes!

You know what? I think the lecturer (the head of the Swedish radio in this film) looks like opera singer Joel Berglund! He was the head of the Royal Opera in Stockholm which of course adds to the comedy of it all! (if it IS him. I have to check it.) The boy by the way shouts "Bravo! More! More!"

I checked Joel Berglund and found a fine photo of him on "stipendiefonder (operasolisterna)" (Google)and it definitively looks like the man in this film! Har nån svensk nån synpunkt? He was 7 years older than Jussi and became head of the Royal Opera in 1943 (this film is from 1938). I think it would be very funny if it WAS Joel Berglund!

Suggest listening to Bjorling's singing of Salut Demeure. The only other tenor who sang this aria beautifully was GEORGES THILL, the French Caruso. No others could compare to these two great artists.
