"From Where You Are," written and performed by Jason Wade, a member of a band named Lifehouse. Mr. Wade was inspired to write the song by the death of a 16-year-old friend in an auto accident.
The commercial dramatizes the issue by showing a highway crowded with cars - filled with teenage passengers - that suddenly disappear. "Every year, nearly 6,000 teenagers go for a drive and never come back," says the actor Dennis Haysbert, the Allstate spokesman. He asks the parents watching the spot to "start the conversation" with their teenage children about driving safely.

I love this song a LOT, and Lifehouse is one of my FAVORITE bands, but this video did not meet expectations. Showing Jason in the recording studio was pretty cool, but the driving? Honestly, a lot of it was cheesy, and the teens were all shown having a lot of fun and smiling. It actually made me wanna go drive somewhere with my friends (kinda the opposite of what they were going for). The video could've been done in a much more hard-hitting way. It had the potential to be a lot more personal.

seems like you completely missed the point of the video... the kids are shown happy and smiling for a reason. because in the end you see them drive off into the horizon, and they never come back. that's the message of the video. that you can be having fun going for a drive with your friends in one moment, and then you're gone in the next.

Yes, I realize that's what the point was. But that's SUCH a generic message. It's been done so many times. In my opinion, it should've been much more personal; they should've taken a bigger risk with their video instead of playing it safe.

I think the reason why it's quite "generic" is so that more people can relate to it.. If you personalize something too much then only a smaller number of people will relate to it. I think it does the job quite well considering how many people are commenting on it sharing what this song means to them.. But I get what you're saying. I think the "Broken" video will be much more personalized judging from some of them making-of footage I've seen...
