fun fact...this song was actually composed by stephen sondheim, not leonard bernstein. the story is, in the original cast, Maria realized that she did not have a song to herself. Since Berstein was unavailable to write a song for her, Sondheim stepped in and wrote "I Feel Pretty." Most people don't know this.

Your assertion is erronenous. The word "gay" was inserted especially for the movie because this song was taking place during the "day"/"today". In the original Broadway play, the verse was "happy and witty and bright" (just as in the commercial) as the song was taking place at "night". There was no change to avoid controversy. That's ridiculous. Get your facts straight.
