Like i said before, i did not say she was bad, she is good but Callas has more feeling and real pathos.
IMO. Callas's french is better.

The ending is not the way Massenet wrote the score. Callas mentioned in one of her Masterclasses at Julliard that this is considered vulgarity...I couldn't agree more

Well I want to tell somethings about this video.I really think that Angela sings very well. her french is quite good and she is expressive. The end not for r her voice. it's quite low and a voice more mezzo can do a better ending, Anyway brava, brava! I am still singing it and with many more years than Anghela, It's very difficult. what beautiful eyes !

Oui, vous avez raison, la fin de cet air est pour une voix de mezzo, car Chiméne etait chantè au temps de Massenet par un vois de "Falcon "Aujourdhui on appelle cette voix un soprano dramatique , mais cela n'est tout à fait exact Car Cornélie Falcon chantait aussi en tessiture de mezzO J'aime Anghela, Callas malheureusement la voix lui oscillait terriblement dans l'aigu

Frankly, I don't know what you people are talking about: I have seen Le Cid staged, in the theatre, and the ending of "Pleurez..." was exactly like that of Gheorgiu here.Find something else to criticize, if you must.

You are so right, sancarlo,they can criticize her, I found nothing vulgar about her singing. I LOVE the ending!! One cannot compare her to Callas - and she would not like to be compared with anybody - she is unique in eveything she sings (and act). It is time to realise that she is a LEGENT in her own time!!

great performance!! Bravo Angela!! but i for some reason think that Caballe's interpretation of this aria is still the best. Nothing against Gheorgiu, just personal preference

Great performance, in my opinion. This aria is usually done by mezzos but Angela is in great voice here. The tempi seem a bit rushed to me. Callas has a very impassioned recording of it; Grace Bumby performed it excellently too.

It would be nice too see this level of commitment from all singers. I think she does a great job here, despite the interpolated ending. She's fabulous.

The actual name of this aria is: "Pleurez, pleurez, yeux" ("cry, cry, my eyes" )
"Jeux" means "games" in french. ... hihi... little mistake!
