The album was produced with te intention to sound like a raw experience and "naked" instruments. If you analyse the Bonus DVD live in studio you can realize that is sounds EXACTLY like the album. It was intended. Punk sound, angry sound.

just watch "some kind of monster" the documentary and you'll see why this album was made the way it was. Sure a lot of people didn't like it (even tho it won a grammy), but it shows Metallica's ability to diversify in music. Mainstream my ass. They don't follow trends they set them. And fuck Napster, if someone was stealing money that I worked hard to earn I'd raise as much hell as Lars did. I'll listen to St. Anger if it means I can listen 2 KEA, RTL, MOP, AJFA and everything else they made.
