Never seen musicians huddle together that closely. Byard plays beautifully, like Tommy Flanagan here. Clifford Jordan every bit as great as Shorter or Brecker. He's forcing it here, to please Mingus. His "Glass Bead Games" (Spike Lee's dad on bass) from 1974 is better than Trane's A Love Supreme from 10 years earlier.

I love the balance between Jordan and Dolphy as far as sax styles goes- Eric's solos are just theoretically insane and crazy, whereas Jordan's stuff is more melodic. The two of them together are just fantastic.
