I THINK that was just kind of something Jamie Lee Curtis wanted to do to make it more memorable. To be honest, I think Laurie at that point resembled Curtis the actress more than Strode the character. If you look back at "Halloween" and "Halloween 2" you see that Laurie's not a real "I'll see you in HELL!", kiss her indestructible psycho/boogeyman brother's mask on the lips before plummeting to your death kind of girl. I think they just did it the way SHE wanted to keep her happy.
