She does; but he asks some dumb questions of a person whose first language is not English. Like 'How are you?' Philosophers can answer such questions, but we all do it everyday as part of a meaningless convention. She is not open to such nuances and therefore appears taken aback, don't you think?

well when you're trying to communicate through an ear piece that doesn't seem to be working very well, as well as speaking a second language, it's hard to answer things accurately. they're usually on the same basic subject

Netrebko is a Ukrainian last name (it is a common knowledge), so, yes she is not exactly Russian-Russian, and she looks very Ukrainian too.
As far as the interview goes, I agree, it is very difficult to hear two Russian people speaking English to each other; and yes, their English is not perfect, but you should take into account that she sings in couple of languages and the "opera language" is Italian, not English, besides she lives in Austria....so, again, Germanic (not English!).

What I am saying is, she probably does not have any former education in English and, therefore, should be excusable for not speaking perfect English.
For those, obviously unintelligent people with "she is stupid / idiot remarks", let me ask you this question: how many languages do you speak yourself? Let me guess.....one? That would be English? Can you also sing opera in Italian, German, Russian, etc? Let me rephrase, can you sing at all????

And Yes, the anchor, SHOULD have better English, because that is definitely a part of his job and he is obviously getting paid for asking question in English. It would be desirable for that TV station to improve quality of their "onscreen" employees, especially when they broadcast this channel allover the world.

You should watch the entire video before calling Anna stupid. She IS NOT stupid. she might answer the question a bit delayed because they communicate through earpiece. It's difficult to communicate that way. Anna is also being interviewed by an American guy and English is not Anna's first language. But she truly did answer the questions correctly. SHE IS NOT STUPID!

I think she speaks fairly good English.

Thanks for this - fascinating. I applaud both for speaking to each other so well in English - an unnatural thing for them to do. Anna is an important contributor for keeping opera alive. She puts "bums on seats". She thrilled so many of us with her performance at the "Proms". She is intelligent, ambitious and hard-working. She deserves all she gets.

She knows the answer in her head (I think) but formulating it into words of another language requires effort. I know...I'm trying to learn Spanish. It is definitely ridiculous when two russians talk to each other in foreign language(I am telling just because I am russian too...). But, well... it was done for you snobs, to know a bit about something new(or things you've never heard). Talking about Anna's IQ level, I don't really think she should be equal to Einstein or Spinoza, why should she? Enough she is great combo of pretty face, talented actress and strong singer.
