I heard even Placido wouldn't sing it as he got older because it was such a difficult song. The breathing and timing to that final note are so small you have to have the breathing JUST so. Amazing!
Though I was surprised he and Eli beat out Nuttin' But Stringz. I loved them.

Its incredibly easy to get emotional when singing. Unlike playing an instrument singing is much closer to ones soul. And as for the song, its a very meaningful song, especially in context with the competition, if you know what it is about. So the reason for paul and him both singing it is understandable.
