my dad once told me the guy that wrote this song was close to death, and his feelings have been expressed in the lyrics to how he was feeling, im not sure how true this is, it is a beautiful song it will always be special to me it reminds me of relatives that ive lost, ((my dad has not passed away if anyone got that impression, thats not what i intended))

sorry to hear of your loss mate, it is a beautiful song, its becoming a family song this now, it was played at my grandads and great uncles funeral, our family have written out forms for when we die whether we want to be buried and what songs we want playing etc so we know that the person will get what they want when they go, a few of us have that down at some parts of our funerals

Yes that is true... The man who wrote this song was also a priest (I think) but he died a few months after finishing it. My grandfather sang this to his father on his death bed per my great grandfathers request. The song moves me each time I hear it.

its such a lovely song even if there is not special meaning behind it, but its extra special if it reminds you of someone or if it has a special meaning, its becoming a tradition in our family to have it now, we have all wrote out what we want at our funerals on a piece of paper so we all know what we want when we go, so we all know that we can give everyone what they wanted
