Yes I did, but I have been around for a while :-) I have been looking into Labi's music for a while. In the 70's I was in my teens & the uk group Madness covered Labi's 'It must be love', and of course there was the anti aparthied song he did 'so strong'. It was the Kayne West song I hadn't heard off!LOL! I am enjoying disovering Labi's music as he has created such wealth of material, I tried to buy one of his albumns yesterday but had no luck in the high street so will have to go online!

i guess that settles that...lol...but the fact does remain that he did introduce it to many who didnt know, but people should give older music a chance regardless...a lot of people wait for a sample when they can just dig for themselves...thats if they are REALLY interested...

That is the truth. However, there is a generation gap in music. This would be a part of the older generation while the pop music culture of the young generation is more likely to listen to a bunch of samples in regards to the original. It's sad really because some samples or remakes tarnish the original song. Lucky for the young generation, Kanye was able to make the song on par with the original. Still, you can't recreate this song, it's too beautiful. No doubt the oldies are the best songs.

Siffre is in a class of his own. He hasn't changed since 1969.
I first saw him when he was a jazz guitarist in Soho back in 1966.(trio combo called "Safari")
His human rights statements are as powerful as Bob Dylan's/Joan Baez's in my estimation.
His voice is angelic..pure , sincere, no pretense. Very rare qualities in music today!
Labi should've been the main artist at the recent Mandela concert.(in place of half of those posers)

I agree with you 100%.
the thing with music is that there are the innovators and then there are the pretenders.
Labi, like Jimi Hendrix, was an innovator.
He came about in 1970 when most black artists were either soul or reggae singers..THEN suddenly this young, handsome black guy appeared out of nowhere with JUST a guitar and a voice from Heaven!
He gave way to artists like Joan Armatrading.
Labi has to be one of the most sincere guys in an industry full of posers.

Most of Labi's songs are timeless.
Starting in 1970 with "Pretty Girl"(Make My Day)..."It Must Be Love" has to be the ULTIMATE love song.
"Something So Strong" is the best ever human rights anthem.
All perfect songs too..and all so simple but effective.

yea...cuz lord knows ive heard sum samples that brought shame to the original...i jus feel the mood of certain songs like this wen remade should follow that same mood and feeling.like u cant flip this song into a sample for a song talkin bout drugs and violence...it has to be that this is me and u cant change me this is my ish anthem to it...thats why i luv it.so to all u beat makers out there...if u eva sample like i sumtimes do.educate yourself of the music first.appreciate it.and keep it real

Yeah, I had no clue about Labi...until I picked up Shaolin Soul Vol. 2, which contained "I Got the" on the comp; I recognized the Eminem sample on the track. Then I finally looked into the Kanye sample that everyone else heard and found out it was him. Now I realize how good this guy's music is.
I do like "I Wonder," but I absolutely fell in love with the original it came from. Labi is one hell of a songwriter. I also adore the near equal in beauty, "Watch Me."
