| I love Clooney and I appreciate what he's trying to say here. But I disagree with him that there were better acting opportunities for women in the 1940s. All those big roles were either the femme fatale or the marrying kind. Roles for women are more diverse today (they now include the supportive girlfriend and the ambitious harpy - hooray!), but we've still got a long way to go. I wouldn't want to go BACK to the 1940s for anything woman-related, except maybe some of the outfits. |

| i agree and i agree about the clothes too. also women of ethnic minorities were really badly represented then. some beautiful films like gone with the wind havent aged well in certain ways because the racial politics is so outdated. but all the women even if they are portrayed as housewifes or femme fatales have gumtion, wit and tend to give as good as they get. nowadays they wear tight clothing, say very little, pout a lot and their breasts are enlarged in post production. |
