For those wondering who Johnny Kannis is; he was a Birdman fan whom later became frontman of the Hitmen with fellow members of Radio Birdman (see NZOZ1981 and NZOZ1982 for Hitmen videos).

Yeah Hup! The debt to the MC5 and the Stooges is obvious (and was certainly acknowledged by the band), but they can't be criticized for being one of the few bands who played raw loud unruly genuine and FUN rock n' roll during an era of thousands of third-rate Zep imitators. Amazing stuff.

Radio Birdman had more originality than almost any band ever. The members of the band were big Stooges fans and the Stooges are ORIGINAL with a capital O. Anybody that is a Stooges fan and that is also a musician understands how important originality is. Laura it is too bad you feel the need to comment on something you know nothing about. Do you really know so little you need to talk about things which you don't understand? It makes you look stupid. you have a lot to learn about music.

I saw the 2006 and 2007 Radio Birdman shows. Detroit, and then Ann Arbor. In 06, I came in not knowing anything about them. I was there to see Mudhoney! RB played one of the very best sets I have ever heard. People talked about that show for a long time. Thanks for the great post.

An opinion is a personal thing and should remain personal in cases like this, because we are NOT going to change our minds for the benefit of your husband's 'knowledgable' taste. He doesn't know the environment in which the band has come from or why a LOT of people have taken to this band. He has walked in completely ignorant about this particular band and did not know what he was dealing with. Would your 'knowledgable' husband do the same thing to a religious sect? If you say yes, than I suggest you take very special care of that husband of yours... because I guarentee that as Birdman/punk fans we DO know more about music than your husband does...

So please, tell your husband to stick closely to the music that he listens to, whatever that taste may be and stay clear from things that he just doesn't get, because clearly he doesn't get Birdman and that's fine....
There are other people who don't like Birdman, but unlike your husband they know better than to make an opposing comment about the band they simply don't get. Most intelligent people just shrug and walk away. They wouldn't even check the video out in the first place.

So, in conclusion - Vince is arrogant and pretensious and has weak knowledge about bands. I'm sure the majority of things Vince knows about bands we also know and we also have surplus knowledge about bands like Birdman and their ilk.
I don't like rap, but I do appreciate what rap is and wouldn't put the musical genre down. I just leave rap to those who like it and keep myself away from it. If Vince thinks he is right for making that comment than he is arrogant. But hey, you know him best!
