I'll be honest I guessed on the date. I think I am off. There was no date at all listed on this performance. It was from Vienna mid to late 80's. Hampson and Matteuzzi were also in the cast.

She does a beautiful job. And for me, her rapid vibrato always used to mar her singing (until recent years where it's mellowed), but here she really comes off well. The coloratura helps disguise it, of course, but she does a good job in the sustained passages as well. 4.5/5

I find her radiance always somewhat cold. She sings with ease though and good diction too. It is sung in the classical mezzo way. Nothing out of the ordinary. Well done. 4/4

She never looked like she was working too hard. I like the fact that she can sing all the way up to the top of her register without making unattractive faces. I saw her in recital in about 1980. She was brilliant. I got to meet her afterward and she was nice, too. 5/5

I absolutely ADORE Frederica von Stade - I had the opportunity to see her both in recital with Samuel Ramey, and as Despina in San Francisco Opera's "Cosi" a few years back. (Plus, she's a Bay Area resident, which earns her extra points! :D ) I agree that her chest voice is incredible in this clip... but I think that she could have done a bit more to make Rosina seem a bit more free-spirited (she seemed just a bit restrained here, but that could just be the director's decision...) 4.5/5

She is my idol. I managed to see her as Rosina in San Francisco in the early 90's. I've also met her on several occasions and she is a lovely down to earth lady. Flicka rules!!!
