umm i never said that i didnt he had a high C#. And no, in Il Trovatore, the aria "Di Quella Pira," it is a high C natural. In this aria, it is a C#. In Poliuto, corelli sang the high D natural. i'm not sure if you replied to the wrong person, but this is fact.

You must understand the development of the male voice. If you had heard Caruso in the late 1890s, his voice was very light also. But it sure changed, didn't it? Many tenors make premature moves to heavier material, before the voice is mature enough to handle it. Many people accused Pav. of this, but he was simply supernatural... none of the rules applied to him :-) Please don't fault JDF for trying to ensure a nice long career singing APPROPRIATE roles. And if you don't like, don't listen.

I don't understand the impulse of some opera queens to exalt their own personal favorites by derogating other fine singers. Florez is a superb singer by any standard of any age, and I think Arturo is a great part for him; would love to hear him in it. Yes, Pavarotti and Kraus were both great in the opera (I heard both live), and they were both very different singers from Florez. Florez is a much lighter voice than Pavarotti's, probably closer to what Bellini heard from Rubini and Mario.

Come ammiro Anna Netrebko così ammiro incondizionatamente Juan Diego Flores, il miglior rappresentante del belcanto, il più degno erede di Luciano Pavarotti, in definitiva il miglior cantante dei nostri giorni. Anche lui rappresenta una sintesi straordinaria di tecnica, voce, interpretazione artistica, giovinezza e bell'aspetto. Gran cosa se si continua così!

It is such sensitive singing, because sincerely the role is a bit heavy for him. But he surmounts the difficulties very tastefully. I do not like is Os though. No singer would do that today... because you can't "smoke (your) voice lower." Smoking does not change the shape of your instrument. Caruso was just one example of many... Gigli, Bjorling, etc. (I don't think either one of them smoked)

nice voice, but the performance just drags. blame the conductor? Listen to Callas masterclass on this aria, she shows the singer and the accompanist how to keep it flowing while keeping it very musical with rubato.

Yes, fair comment. As an Italian speaker - lived there for years - however I did notice that his diction in the song is just not the same as an italian would sing it. His accent in english when he speaks is different from an italian when he speaks english, and this carried over to his performances. No criticism at all though... I think he is the greatest singer around at the moment, and so charismatic!

Rereading what I just wrote it dont make any sense at all !! What I mean is that his diction when singing in Italian is different than that of an Italian, and I think that this particular song is better sung by an Italian....then a south american... and NEVER by an Englishman, Frenchman etc !! Ha ha

An admirable attempt at a fiendishly difficult tenor aria. A te O Cara has a very hugh tessiture and sits in the upper range of the tenor range through most of the aria. The phrasing is superb and the conducting , though a little slow for my taste, is supportive.

as a matter of fact, spanish and italian are two latin languages, therefore it is easier for a peruvian to sing in italian or an italian sign in spanish, than say an english speaker to sign either spanish or italian, as english sounds differ a lot from the latins.
Same for french. The spanish "R" is almost unpronounceable for any other people

Sorry, I fell asleep... I fell asleep during the long upward slur (dis)connecting his consonant and his vowel. There is an unpleasant buzz in his voice, but I know that is what they are teaching singers these days, "it's the secret of 'cutting through an orchestra' ". It's all very nasal. He has a nice C#.
